This week's excellent weather allowed 9 Mansfield Road Club riders to enjoy a picturesque ride…

MRC member Pete Musgrove and friend Jono Dexter entered the challenging event ‘Chase the Sun’ 2025. With Pete having already done the event twice before. Riding from sunrise at 04:40, and attempting to finish before the sun set at 21:30
They rode 215.62 miles at an average speed of 15.9mph, with elevation of 9370 ft. Total ride time was 13:33. I think you would agree that is was a magnificent achievement, well done to both riders.
Pete says “Wow what a tough day in the saddle, too many issues to list, but working together we made it with 4 minutes to spare. We still did it though and got a medal, CTS South will never be done again by me”
“Also thanks to everyone who donated to MacMillan Cancer Support you managed to raise £402, thank you so much”

So What is Chase The Sun?
It’s a ride, not a race. It’s a physical, mental and navigational challenge.
Chase the Sun is an annual ride from East to West coasts on the longest Saturday of the year. It’s a ride of over 200 miles. It is tough but achievable for an average committed cyclist—if they have put in the training! The objective is to get to the coastal finish before the sun sets.
Entering this event is based on the condition of you accepting responsibility for your own safety and should you have a mechanical issue that can’t be resolved, your own recovery.
THE ROUTE
Starting in the Thames estuary, the 200+ mile route bi-sects south London, bridging the Thames onto Wiggin’s Olympic time trial route, before seeking green country lanes, quaint villages, the lush Vale of Pewsey, climbing the Mendip hills, descending the breath taking Cheddar gorge, finally arriving on the seafront at Weston-Super-Mare.
