Velo 99 Skillington Road Race

Two MRC members competed in the Velo 99 Skillington Road Race last Saturday, Steve Shaw and Louise Wardroper Whitworth.

The Velo 99 Road Race league.
The league is a race series for invited riders only. This season long competition is raced as a series of 12 handicap races. Each race consists of of six groups of riders that are set off at time staggered start intervals depending upon there abilities.

Groups are set off at Handicapped times with Group 1 first and so on up to Elite Group 6

The aim of Velo 99 is to provide a race series wherein competitors can safely race.

The Age requirements for Velo 99 is : Men 40+ and Ladies 40+ (By Invitation Only)
Race Distances are approximately 32-42miles
Minimum Requirement for Velo 99 Members is 6 Races and 1 Marshall during a season.

Excellent achievement by both of our riders, Louise in Group 3 finished in 8th place overall but didn’t get caught by the other groups and Steve won the Sprint and finished in 10th place overall – Well done to both riders.

Steve -“I took a win in a sprint finish in group 4 in very wet tricky conditions, but overall very pleased with my performance”

Louise – “Wet and grim conditions. Dropped in last km on the hill finish but 8th out of 8 isn’t bad!!
