Chain Gang Riding.
Chain gang riding is a fast close grouped ‘gang’ of cyclists usually riding in two parallel lines behind the the ride leader on the front of the group. This takes advantage of ‘drafting’ giving wind protection to the riders behind the leader in a form of ‘chain gang’ also known as ‘Through and off’
The riders rotate the formation so giving each rider a turn on the front while those behind recover from the efforts. If done correctly this is a smooth process enabling the whole group to move at a far higher average speed than normal group riding.
It takes discipline, communication and organisation of the whole group to achieve this correctly. See video below. It is great fun and will not only improve your fitness, but your communication and bike handling skills as well. MRC have regular weekly chain gang rides throughout the summer.
