BIG RED RIDE 2018 - Reliability Trial

More Information

Event Information

The Big Red Ride has grown in to one of the best Reliability Trial rides in Nottinghamshire. This type of event has been a prominent feature of club cycling for over 100 years and you may be wondering what it’s all about? It isn’t a race, sportive, charity ride, time trial or club run. A reliability trial is an organised ride which challenges a cyclist to complete a designated course, within a preset time limit. But don’t worry, we give a generous allowance for your efforts and we would expect you to be back to base within five hours.

It’s a ride for all abilities and whether you’re a seasoned “roadie” or you want to crack your very first 100km this ride is the perfect start to your cycling year.

Riders will set off in groups at timed intervals. If you’re a rider who isn’t good with directions and need every junction marshalled, or unsure how maps work, find reading simple instructions confusing, can’t time your ride, this is not the type of event for you!

If you’re interested in entering the Big Red ride 2018, you can pay online (small surcharge fee) or enter on the day for £5.00. This event is suitable for individual riders, clubs or teams and we accept any bike and ability. On entering you will receive a full information pack which includes the route and also a link for a GPX file for loading into your GPS unit, if you prefer. Our headquarters for the event is the John Fretwell Centre on Sookholme Rd, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG19 8LL. There will be safe parking, changing rooms/toilets and catering/refreshments on the day.

Registration starts at 8:00am with the first riders off at 9:00 am

We look forward to seeing you on the 4th March 2018

as a local club and knowing every cyclist is different who joins our club this year we’ve taken on a little twist to the big red ride and designed another route to bring the ride to a wider audience. To suit more cyclists getting into road cycling and don’t feel like they could achieve a whole 65miles of the big red ride. So we wanted to make a shorter version, and it’s called the small red ride, and it’s approximately 50 miles ( 80km) instead of the full big redride that’s approx 65miles (100km).
